Road haulage firms are booking larger orders and increasing turnover, but the inland waterway shipping sector is falling back, the report said. Road hauliers booked 2.8% higher turnover and a 2.5% increase in volume in 2016. The bank said the growing Dutch economy, sharply higher growth in the construction sector and the steady gain in online purchases of consumer goods which are delivered to buyers were the main reasons for the buoyancy in the trucking sector.
